THE KÉRASTASE HAIR EROSION SCALE
After extensive research, Kérastase has developed the Hair Erosion Scale, meeting the needs of damaged hair. The scale assesses hair damage and places it on a scale from 1 to 4, 1 being slightly damaged, and 4 total destruction of the hair fibre. Once the erosion level has been diagnosed, a personalised treatment will be prescribed for the hair.
1. Some raised and separated scales, fibre surface is less smooth.
2. Scales are raised and detached.
3. Deterioration of the fibre’s surface. Fibre’s internal structure is visible.
4. The internal structure of the fibre is damaged and totally eroded.

Healthy Hair
The hair scales are perfectly smooth, closed and overlap. The surface is very even, so the image appears uniform.
Dry/Sensitive Hair
The scales of sensitive hair are turned up. The contour of the hair is not smooth and the scales which catch light appear uneven and speckled.
Weakened/Damaged Hair
The hair has such an uneven cuticle that the cortex is almost bare and transparent in certain areas. The hair is vulnerable to breakage and split ends.
